Prerequisites
- Privileges: Directory admin or a role that can edit camera hardware and streams.
- Driver support: Confirm your camera/driver exposes orientation in Genetec; otherwise plan to rotate in the camera’s web UI.
- Maintenance window: Expect a brief video interruption when changing orientation or resolution.
Rotate in Config Tool (when the driver exposes orientation)
Open the camera in Config Tool
- Path: Video > Cameras > select the camera entity.
Find orientation settings
- Action: Open the Hardware or Imaging/Video tab (label varies by driver).
- Action: Locate Orientation/Image rotation.
Set rotation
- Action: Choose 90° (portrait) or 180° (upside-down) as needed.
- Tip: If only flip options exist, 180° can be achieved by applying both horizontal and vertical flips; otherwise use the web UI.
Align the stream to the orientation
- Action: Open the Streams tab for the active stream.
- Action: For 90° rotation, set a portrait resolution (e.g., 1080×1920, 720×1280). For 180°, keep the same resolution; the image will be inverted correctly.
- Note: Many cameras call 90° portrait “Corridor mode” and expose matching resolutions.
Apply and refresh
- Action: Click Apply/Save. Refresh the camera preview or restart video on the entity if needed.
Rotate in the camera’s web UI (when Genetec doesn’t expose rotation)
Log into the camera
- Action: Open the camera’s web interface with admin credentials.
Set image orientation
- Path: Video/Imaging > Orientation/Rotate (or Corridor mode).
- Action: Choose Rotate 90° (or 270°) for portrait, or Rotate 180° for inversion.
Match the stream resolution
- Action: For 90° rotation, select a portrait stream (e.g., 1080×1920).
- Action: Identify the specific stream Genetec uses and update that one.
Save and reboot (if required)
- Action: Apply changes; some models need a reboot to finalize orientation.
Refresh in Genetec
- Action: In Config Tool, click Apply on the camera, then verify the stream updates. If not, restart the video or Archiver service during a maintenance window.
Verify in Security Desk
- Live check: Open the camera in a tile and confirm the image is upright and fills the tile without stretching or letterboxing.
- Layouts: Use portrait tiles or adjust tile aspect ratios for 90° video.
- Analytics/masks: Revisit motion zones, privacy masks, and VA settings; orientation changes alter coordinate maps.
- PTZ presets: Test and re-save presets after rotation—angle mapping can shift.
Troubleshooting
- No rotation option: Rotate in the camera’s web UI and set a portrait stream; Genetec will display the rotated feed correctly.
- Squished or pillarboxed video: Update the stream to a matching aspect (9:16 for 90°). Ensure tile layout suits the orientation.
- Client still shows old orientation: Clear the tile, reload the camera, or refresh services. Confirm you changed the stream Genetec is ingesting.
- Export orientation mismatch: Recheck the stream used for recording; archives follow the stream orientation and resolution.
