Reviewing recorded video in Genetec Security Center 5.13 (Security Desk)

Prerequisites

  • Privileges: Ensure your role can view archives and export video.
  • Archiver health: Confirm cameras are recording and Archiver is online; otherwise, gaps will appear.
  • Time context: Know the approximate incident time window and cameras involved.

Open playback

  1. Launch Security Desk and load cameras

    • Action: Open a workspace and place the camera(s) in tiles.
  2. Enter playback mode

    • Action: Click the Playback button on the tile (clock/play icon) or right‑click the tile and select Playback.
    • Tip: Use multiple tiles if reviewing several cameras; you can sync them next.

Find the recorded segment

  1. Set the time and date

    • Action: Use the timeline’s date/time picker to jump to the incident window.
  2. Scrub the timeline

    • Action: Drag the playhead across the timeline. Blue/green segments represent recorded video; gaps indicate no recording.
  3. Zoom the timeline

    • Action: Adjust timeline zoom for minute-by-minute or second-by-second precision.
  4. Playback controls

    • Action: Use Play/Pause, speed (e.g., 0.5×, 1×, 2×, 4×), and frame step for fine review.
    • Tip: Use Skip forward/back buttons (e.g., ±10/30 seconds) to bracket key moments quickly.

Multi-camera synchronized review

  1. Select all relevant tiles

    • Action: Place cameras covering the scene in tiles.
  2. Enable sync

    • Action: Turn on Synchronized playback so all tiles follow the same timeline.
  3. Align start time

    • Action: Set a common start time; scrub once and watch all angles in lockstep.
  4. Optional: Tile focus

    • Action: Use maximize tile or tile cycling to focus on key angles without losing sync.

Mark evidence and export clips

  1. Create a bookmark

    • Action: At the critical moment, add a Bookmark with a clear title, category, and notes.
    • Use: Bookmarks make re‑finding and reporting faster.
  2. Define an export range

    • Action: Set In/Out points on the timeline for the exact segment.
  3. Export video

    • Action: Choose Export, select format (Genetec G64/G64x for authenticated playback; MP4 for general viewing), and include watermark/hash if policy requires.
    • Tip: For multi-camera incidents, export synchronized clips together when available so recipients see the full sequence.
  4. Verify the export

    • Action: Open the file in Genetec Video Player (for G64/G64x) or a standard player (for MP4) to confirm integrity and timing.

Troubleshooting

  • No archives showing:

    • Check: Recording schedule, camera state, and Archiver connectivity; adjust time window and confirm retention settings.
  • Choppy playback:

    • Check: Network load and client CPU/GPU; reduce speed or tile count, or review locally on the Archiver network.
  • Export fails or is incomplete:

    • Check: Permissions, available disk space, and that the selected range contains recorded video; try G64/G64x if MP4 errors persist.
  • Times don’t align across cameras:

    • Check: Time sync (NTP) across devices and servers; re-enable synchronized playback and reset the start time.
