ExacqVision camera addition step-by-step guide (with references)

Prerequisites

  • Network: Ensure the camera is reachable (correct IP/subnet, gateway/DNS).
  • Credentials: Have the camera’s username/password ready.
  • Driver choice: Prefer the manufacturer-specific driver (Axis uses Axis Vapix) for best performance; use ONVIF only if the native driver isn’t available. RTSP can provide video only, without motion or configuration data.

Add an IP camera in ExacqVision

  1. Open Add IP Cameras
    • In the navigation tree, expand the target server.
    • Open Configure System > Add IP Cameras.
    • In the Add IP Cameras window, click New.
  2. Select device type and protocol
    • Device Type: Choose the camera’s manufacturer-specific driver (Axis). If unavailable and the device is ONVIF-compliant, select ONVIF.
    • Protocol: Choose from the Protocol list; default is HTTPS If Available when supported by the selected device type.
  3. Enter connection details
    • Hostname/IP Address: Enter the camera’s IP or hostname.
    • Username/Password: Enter and confirm the camera credentials.
    • Optionally check Show Details to review status connection info.
  4. Apply and connect
    • Click Apply to connect and save the configuration.
    • Confirm the Status shows a recent, successful connection.
  1. Verify streams and recording
    • Live video: Confirm the stream displays in Client.
    • Motion detection/config: Confirm recording on motion at 10fps

Alternative add methods and management

  • Find IP Cameras tab: Discover and add cameras by searching the network.
  • Quick Add: Use streamlined entry for known IPs/credentials.
  • Import cameras: Bulk import to an Exacq server from a list.
  • Change IP / Apply to multiple: Adjust addresses and apply configuration settings across devices where needed.

Troubleshooting pointers

  • Driver mismatch: If motion or metadata is missing, switch from RTSP to Axis/ONVIF driver.
  • HTTPS issues: If HTTPS fails, verify certificates or temporarily test with HTTP, then revert to HTTPS if supported by the device type.
  • Connection failures: Can you ping the camera? Do you see it in the arp table?  arp -a

Notes for Axis cameras

  • Prefer Axis driver: Use the Axis-specific driver for full feature support and better performance; ONVIF is the fallback. RTSP-only streams provide video without motion/config data.
